Winter GrittingPosted by donna, 8th November, 2017
In preparation for the onset of adverse weather conditions, BVT have again supplied road salt bins, road salt and a scoop in each of the courtyards and shared areas across the Village. The road salt has been supplied for residents to spread over the communal courtyards and shared areas. Please use sparingly as supplies are limited. A small amount of salt spread evenly across a wide area will be more effective than pouring large amounts of salt in patches.
Please note, for the road salt to be most effective it is important to spread it on the ground before the ice forms, this usually means the evening before icy conditions are forecast.
Each bin is numbered, so if salt stocks are running low, please contact the Estates Team, quoting the grit bin number, so that we can refill the bin as quickly as possible.
In previous years the HCA have a provided a gritting service for the main roads through Lightmoor Village. This service has now ceased.
A number of residents have asked whether this is a service that could be paid for through the Stewardship Charge. A paper was taken to the Lightmoor Village Estates Management Committee. Following discussion at committee with Trustees, Officers and Resident Representatives, it was felt that residents would incur an unknown rise in the Stewardship Charge, dependent on how the severe the winter is. This could mean an additional cost of up to £30 per household. Instead it was decided that BVT would encourage residents to become Neighbourhood Snow Wardens.
Neighbourhood Snow Wardens
Telford and Wrekin Council, grit A and B roads as a priority, with secondary routes, such as bus services and feeder roads to schools afterwards. Lightmoor Way is a bus route and has a school, so may be gritted after the priority roads have been done, dependent on the severity of the weather.
Neighbourhood Snow Wardens are resident volunteers who assist in clearing snow in their neighbourhood. Wardens will be kept informed of weather and gritting action to take, via email and text message. T&WC will also provide a supply of rock salt, a shovel, a high visibility vest, gloves and a booklet containing advice and contact numbers to ring at any time.
If you are interested in becoming a Neighbourhood Snow Warden please register on the T&W Council website; telford.gov.uk. And let BVT know so we can help co-ordinate the volunteers.
If you have any further questions about winter gritting, please email the Stewardship Team Stewardship@bvt.org.uk or call 01952 898524.
